Liaoning edge out Shandong 91-87 in 5th round CBA league

BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Missing a 3-pointer to level the score in the last possession, Shandong Gold on Tuesday suffered an 87-91 away loss to Liaoning Hengye, who pinned the last one free throw at the 5th round of 2011-2012 CBA regular season.

The two teams made it 10-to-all in the first quarter before Liaoning sparked an 11-1 strong run led by Rodney Carney, who buried 4 out of 6 attempts in the first half, boosting home team an 8-point advantage 45-37 to enter the third period.

A wave of 3-pointers in the last quarter let Shandong narrow the gap to 87-90 with 24.6 seconds remainning. Shandong forward Alan Anderson, made 4 out of 8 three-point shots missed the last attempt.

Liaoning's substitue center Han Dejun grabbed the crucial defensive rebound and buried the last one of two free throws, helping the home side successfully held off a strong Shandong comeback.

Carney had a game high 23 points followed by duo home guard Zhang Qingpeng and Yangming's 19 and 15 points respectively. Former NBA Laker forward Joshua Powell got 9. Anderson and Ding Yanyuhang both scored 18 points to lead Shandong team.
