MANILA, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Philippine government assured on Saturday the smooth transfer of former president and incumbent congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to a government hospital possibly early next week.

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said that Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo has come up with the plan should the Pasay City Regional Trial Court (RTC) finally effect Arroyo's moving into the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMCC) on Tuesday from a private hospital where she is currently staying.

"The concerned agencies are ready on the looming transfer of Congresswoman Arroyo," she said, adding that the Philippine National Police will provide escort to Arroyo.

"We will ensure the smooth transfer of Congresswoman Arroyo," she said.

Arroyo has been facing an election sabotage case before the Pasay RTC and is now under a hospital arrest in a private establishment.
