Wolfgang Niersbach stands for German Soccer Association presidency

BERLIN, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- The German Soccer Association (DFB) announced on Wednesday that DFB general secretary Wolfgang Niersbach runs for Theo Zwanzigers office.

The DFB pronounced his unanimous favour in Wolfsgang Niersbach at a conference in Frankfurt.

The 62-year-old Niersbach so with applied for the DFB presidency, as still president Theo Zwanziger made known to the public, already last week, that he will not continue in his office after October 2012.

The election of the eleventh DFB President will then take place in an extraordinary parliament the DFB said.

"I am delighted that Wolfgang Niersbach has agreed after intense consideration to begin my succession as President of the German Soccer Asscociation in October 2012" , DFB President Theo Zwanziger said.

Niersbach himself added: I've the utmost respect for this office. I realize what a big step that mean for me personally. My advantage is certainly that I have experienced 40 years of soccer and 20 years of DFB in all facets".
