MADRID, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona this Wednesday announced a deal that will keep young central defender Marc Bartra at the club until the end of the 2013-14 season.

20-year-old Bartra is in his third season with Barcelona's B-team and has spent his entire career at the club which he joined as a schoolboy.

A tall commanding central defender, he has already played for the Barcelona first team, making his debut a month after his 19th birthday in a 2-1 defeat away to Atletico Madrid.

Bartra scored his first goal for the first team in the last match of last season as Barcelona won away to Malaga and he also played in the 4-0 win over BATE Borisov on Tuesday night in the Camp Nou, after which Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola highlighted that several of the young players who had performed in that match were the future of the club. Bartra's buyout clause remains at 12 million Euros until the end of the season when it will rise to 30 million euros.

The central defender has represented Spain at all levels up to and including Under-21.

Barta's contract continues the club's policy of assuring that its up and coming stars remain at the Camp Nou. Barca have already extended the contacts of B-team players, Rafinha Alcantara and Jonathan Dos Santos this season and full back Martin Montoya, who scored against BATE, has said that he too is close to agreeing a new deal.
