Chinese telecommunication firm donates motorcycles to Guinean youths

CONAKRY, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese firm Huawei IDEOS X5 has donated 140 motorcycles and 100 multiservice kiosks to youths in Guinea's seven administrative regions to support the government's ambitious program to create jobs for young people.

An official press statement issued on Wednesday indicated that president Alpha Conde had on Tuesday presided over the ceremony to hand over this donation to the targeted youths in the presence of members of his government and the Chinese partners.

The objective is to contribute to the efforts to create income generating job opportunities for youths, of whom over 60 percent are jobless or underemployed.

During the ceremony to hand over the motorcycles, the director general of Huawei Guinea said that his company had decided to make the donations to the 200 youths who were comprised of 100 females and 100 males to support the efforts by the Guinean government to fight against the problem of unemployment.

Huawei Guinea is a subsidiary of the Chinese multinational Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd which is based at Shenzhen and with 145 subsidiaries across the world. It directly employs 110,000 people spread in 150 countries and in 2010, it recorded a turnover of 30 billion U.S. dollars.

While thanking the officials of the Chinese company for their symbolic gesture, president Conde affirmed that "no country can develop if it does not prioritize youth employment."
