Fire breaks out at factory in Indian city of Kolkata

NEW DELHI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- A big fire broke out in a rubber factory at Tiljala area in east Indian city of Kolkata Monday night, reported local media on Tuesday.

There are no reports of any loss of life so far.

Fifteen fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to control the blaze, which has spread to the second and third floors of the building of the factory, after the fire broke out at 23:00 p.m., reported Indo-Asian News Service.

West Bengal Fire Services Minister Javed Khan also visited the site to supervise the fire-fighting operation.

The firemen's work proved difficult as the area is very congested, said the report.

The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained.

The incident took place one week after over 90 were killed in a major fire in a hospital in Kolkata.
