Veteran guard Baron Davis joins Knicks

12-20-2011 14:56 BJT

WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Veteran point guard Baron Davis joined the New York Knicks on Monday.

Davis' former team Cleveland Cavaliers waived him last week and designated him as their amnesty player so his salary wouldn't count against their cap figure. The 32-year-old will join Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler in New York on a reportedly 2.5 million dollars one-year contract.

However, it still remains a problem when Davis can play for the Knicks as he is still bothered by a back injury and will miss out all the preseason matches.

Drafted by the Charlotte Hornets with the No. 3 overall pick in 1999, Davis has averaged 16.5 points and 7.3 assists in his career. Last season the two-time All-Star played in 58 games, averaging 13.1 points and 6.7 assists for the Clippers and Cavaliers.
