Tunisian Olympic swimmer scoops five golds at Arab games

TUNIS, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Tunisian Beijing Olympic swimmer, Oussama Mellouli won a fifth gold medal on Monday at the 2011 Doha Arab games in the 50m freestyle competition, the official press agency TAP reported.

Mellouli clocked the distance in 23:25 seconds coming ahead of Morocco's Amine Kaoume in 23:44 and Kuwait's Mohamed Madouh in 23: 69.

Previously, Mellouli won four gold medals, respectively in the 400m medley, 100m and 200m butterfly, and the 200m freestyle.

On Monday morning, the Tunisian Olympic champion was disqualified from the 100m breaststroke competition after swimming for more than 15 meters underwater after the first start.

On Sunday, Tunisia rose to second place in the table of medals with 28 gold medals, 18 silvers and 25 bronzes, while host country, Qatar slipped into third place with a total of 27 golds, 23 silvers and 26 bronzes. Egypt still tops the field with 63 gold medals, 54 silvers and 39 bronzes.
