TAIYUAN, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- One person died and three others were injured Tuesday following a three-vehicle pile-up on the Taiyuan section of the Qingdao-Yinchuan expressway in Shanxi province.

Local authorities said the accident occurred at about 7:05 a.m. when a tanker truck, carrying 3.1 tonnes of ethylic acid, rear-ended a coal truck, which then rear-ended another coal truck.

The accident damaged the tanker, causing leakage of the ethylic acid. Firefighters took more than one hour to rescue the four trapped drivers and clear the accident site.

The three injured drivers suffered minor injuries and have been hospitalized.

An investigation is under way, and traffic has resumed on the expressway.
