12-20-2011 20:41 BJT

HANOI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The ongoing visit by Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping to Vietnam carries great significance for further advancing the constant, healthy and stable development of the bilateral ties, Vietnamese Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan said.

The visit will also make huge contributions to pushing forward the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation under the new situation,Doan said in an interview with Chinese media on Monday.

The Vietnamese vice president noted that the two sides have seen frequent exchanges of visits by high-ranking officials in recent years.

During the recent visit to China by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong, the two sides reached an important consensus on properly coping with differences.

She added that Xi's upcoming visit will deepen bilateral cooperation, boost mutual trust, and further promote the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership.

"With careful preparations of both sides, I believe that the visit will be successful, contributing to consolidating and enhancing understanding and trust between the two sides," she said.

Doan said that Vietnam and China in recent years have made great achievements in the political, economic and cultural fields as well as in people-to-people exchanges.

Trade and economic cooperation between the two countries continues to develop vigorously, as China has been Vietnam's biggest trading partner since 2004.

Cooperation in the fields of science and technology, education, and tourism has also registered sound development. There are more than 10,000 Vietnamese students studying in China and some 3,000 Chinese students in Vietnam.

Cultural exchanges and cooperation in sports are also in good momentum, the vice president said. In 2010, the two countries successfully organized the Vietnam-China Friendship Year to celebrate the 60th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations.

Xi's visit will help deepen bilateral relations, boost cooperation at all levels, Doan said.

In the context of how to advance the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperation, Doan noted that both nations are sticking to the socialist path under the leadership of the Communist Party, and both are adopting policies of reform and opening-up, so they both would like to maintain a peaceful and stable environment for national development.

"In the context of a changing and complex world, we need to further uphold the Vietnam-China traditional friendship, be consistent to follow the 16-word motto and the four-good spirit, to make our neighborly relations ever closer, our cooperation ever diversified and sufficient, bringing practical benefits to the two peoples," Doan said.

Doan said the two countries should strengthen and promote their comprehensive strategic partnership in five areas including deepening political trust, furthering trade and investment cooperation, enhancing cultural and people-to-people exchanges, seeking a fundamental and long-term solution to the maritime issue based no friendly negotiations and conducting closer collaboration in regional and international issues.

Building on the fruitful bilateral relations over more than 60 years, Doan believed the Vietnam-China traditional neighborly friendship and comprehensive cooperation will be constantly consolidated and developed, thus contributing to the common interests of the two peoples and the peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
