China orders execution for man over deadly tax office blast

12-29-2011 15:39 BJT

CHANGSHA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- A court in central China's Hunan province on Thursday ordered the execution of a man who set off explosives at a local tax office last year, killing four people and injuring 17 others.

Liu Zhuiheng, 52, was convicted and sentenced to death in December 2010 for detonating explosives outside a third-floor meeting room of the tax office in the Furong district of the provincial capital Changsha on July 30. His actions were his way of venting anger over his business losses.

Liu fled the scene after the blast, and was caught in southern Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, about 500 kilometers from Changsha, on Aug. 8.

Two other men, Li Xiao and Liu Jian, who helped Liu buy explosives and detonators, were sentenced to seven years in jail each.

On Thursday, 14 others were also announced to be executed in Changsha for various crimes, including murder, bombing and robbery.
