Indonesia issues ministerial decree on hotel security management system

JAKARTA, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia issued a ministerial decree on hotel security management system to enhance tourism sector in the country as security is an important element in attracting foreign tourists.

Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu announced the decree during a press conference in her office on Thursday.

"In order to provide protection for hotel service business, we need to increase security in hotel. The decree is also aimed to create security feeling for tourists in hotels," said Pangestu.

She said that the decree is very important as Indonesia is trying to make tourism sector as one of superior industries in the country.

According to Pangestu, with increasing protection, it is expected that more tourists will come to Indonesia and it surely raise hotel occupancy rate.

Yanti Sukamdani, chairwoman of the Association of Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant (PHRI), said that during 2011, hotel occupancy rate is 60 percent.

"In December, the peak of holiday season, the occupancy rate could be higher," said Sukamdani.

She said that in 2012, her organization will focus on four important tourism destination areas, namely Bali, Batam of Riau Archipelago province, Jakarta and Yogyakarta province.

"During this year, occupancy rate in those areas are 65-70 percent," she said.
