NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (Xinhua) -- New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo called on Wednesday to build a 3.8 million-square-foot convention center, the largest in the U.S., in the New York City borough of Queens.

In remarks prepared for his State of the State speech in Albany, Cuomo said the convention center would accommodate the nation's largest events, drive demand for hotel rooms and restaurant meals, and create new tourism revenues.

He added that the project would be a 4-billion-U.S. dollar private investment, which would also include 3,000 hotel rooms and is estimated to generate tens of thousands of jobs and create new economic activity throughout the state.

"This will bring to New York the largest events, driving demand for hotel rooms and restaurant meals and creating tax revenues and jobs, jobs, jobs," said Cuomo. "We will make New York the No. 1 convention site in the nation."

Cuomo also outlined in his second State of the State address major economic development agenda of New York, including rebuilding the state's crumbling roads and bridges and reorganizing state agencies and public authorities.
