Rwandan president meets with senior Chinese official

KIGALI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- President of Rwanda and Chairman of the Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Paul Kagame met with Li Yuanchao, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Tuesday in Rwanda's capital Kigali, during which they discussed growth of ties between their two countries.

President Kagame said in their talks that Rwanda and China have made a lot of achievements in bilateral and multilateral level since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Kagame gave positive assessments on Rwanda-China relations and promised that the Rwandan government will stick to One China policy.

He expressed thanks to the Chinese government and Chinese people for the assistance to his country over the years, and wished the good relations between the two countries can keep the momentum and be consolidated.

Visiting Li, who is also a secretary of the CPC Central Committee Secretariat and head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, said that Sino-Rwandan relations developed smoothly in recent years and the two sides have expanded cooperation in fields such as politics, economy, trade, culture, education and health. The two sides also maintained close coordination in international affairs.

He said China appreciates Rwanda's firm and long-standing support for China on issues concerning its core interests such as Taiwan and Tibet.

China attaches great importance to Sino-Rwandan relations and willing to provide assistance to Rwanda in it's own capacity and strengthen cooperation in fields such as infrastructure, agriculture, mining, and information technology, Li added.

Li also met with Secretary General of RPF Francois Ngarambe on the same day in Kigali and exchanged views with him on the further development of relations between CPC and RPF.
