MANILA, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- Stalwarts of the top Philippine football clubs expect a tight battle as United Football League opens its new season this Saturday, the local media reported.

Top scorer Phil Younghusband believes that the new season is a wide-open race, according to a report on www.abs-cbnnews.com.

"If you look at the field, all the teams in the top four (in the UFL Cup) are capable of beating one another," Younghusband, who plays forward for Loyola Meralco Sparks, said in a press briefing.

For his part, Ian Araneta, forward for Air Force Phoenix, said his team will "do our best to win and give them all a good fight."

The top 10 teams have been bunched in the first division and 12 teams are in the second division. The teams with the best records after the round-robin competition will be crowned champions in their respective divisions.
