S. Korea's nuclear envoy to attend trilateral talks on DPRK

01-16-2012 11:25 BJT

SEOUL, Jan. 16 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's chief nuclear envoy left for the United States earlier Monday for talks with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts over resuming denuclearization negotiations involving the Democratic People's Republic of Korea ( DPRK).

On Tuesday, Lim Sung-nam will meet with Japan's top nuclear negotiator Shinsuke Sugiyama and Kurt Campbell, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, to discuss the state of affairs in the DPRK following its leader Kim Jong Il' s death.

They will also discuss reviving the stalled six-party talks aimed at dismantling the DPRK's nuclear program.

Pyongyang walked out of the talks, last held in 2008, but has expressed its wish to return to the negotiating table.

During his three-day visit, Lim will reportedly hold separate meetings with U.S. officials.
