Myanmar, India reach MoU on cooperation in border security

YANGON, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar and India have reached a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in border security, official media reported Saturday.

The MoU was signed at the 17th state-level meeting of Myanmar- India civil authorities in Nay Pyi Taw Friday.

According to the MoU, the two governments will cooperate in addressing the issues of security threat and cross-border and transnational crimes along the Myanmar-India border for peace and stability of the region and in capacity building of the police forces of the two countries.

The meeting was represented by Deputy Home Minister Brigadier- General Kyaw Zan Myint from the Myanmar side and Home Secretary R. K. Singh from the Indian side.

The national level coordination of Myanmar-India border civil authorities was held alternatively since 1994.
