NEW YORK, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The New York Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week started on Thursday at Lincoln Center, featuring more than 200 designers' Fall 2012 collections on the catwalk from Feb. 9-16.

"Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week continues to put the world's leading fashion designers and brands center stage," said Peter Levy, managing director of IMG Fashion Worldwide and organizer of the Fashion Week."Each season the event evolves as a showcase for established and up-and-coming designers."

The first day of the Fashion Week saw BCBG Max Azria take center stage at Lincoln Center. Its Fall 2012 collection highlighted geometric shapes, intricate pleats, sheer panels and unexpected mixes of fabrics with injections of hues like cranberry, mustard and royal blue.

Well-known Asian American designer Richard Chai's new collection featured gray and black blanket stripes on coats, jackets and trousers for men and women with shades of gray, black and navy blue, creating a youthful and aspirational urban look.

Over the next eight days, New York Fashion Week will present over 80 shows at Lincoln Center ranged from established designers such as Derek Lam, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors and Vera Wang, to emerging talents like Honor, Whitney Eve and TIBI.

Each year, the 232,000 attendees at the biannual Fashion Weeks generate new economic activity for New York City businesses, producing more than 466 million U.S. dollars in direct visitor spending and contributing to 1.6 billion U.S. dollars in annual tax revenue to the city's fashion industry.
