KAMPALA, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- Uganda has named its squad that will face the Republic of Congo in the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Feb. 29.

Bobby Williamson, the national team coach who released the 23-man roster on Wednesday, said that training for the away match will start next week.

Two of the country's stars, team captain Ibrahim Ssekagya and defender Nestory Kizito have been left out of the squad.

"Kizito asked to be left out because he wants to concentrate with club football in Serbia, while Ssekagya in nursing an injury," explained Williamson.

He said hopes that the Salzburg FC defender Ssekagya can recover in time for the other qualifying games.

"I pray that he recovers soon for other games to come," said the Scot.

Also left out of the squad is Scotland-based winger David Obua who was axed from the team last year for disciplinary issues a day before a crucial game against Kenya.
