Marbury wins CBA All-Star Rookie Challenge in coaching debut

GUANGZHOU, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Guangzhou International Sports Arena saw Stephon Marbury from Beijing Ducks coaching to lead Northern Rookie to win over Southern Rookie 105-88 at the CBA All-Star Rookie Challenge on Saturday.

It was Marbury's first coaching experience in China since he joined the league two years ago, and a victory made him very happy.

"The players played very hard, and the played a very close game," said the 35 year old. "I will definitely become a coach in the future."

Liaoning guard Guo Ailun staging another perfect show at with 30 points and six assists. The 19-year-old was also named the Most Valuable player of the game after winning the title in Beijing last year.

Ren Junwei from Shanxi Zhongyu grabbed 29 points and 9 rebounds. Beijing star Zhai Xiaochuan harvested 12 points and 13 rebounds.

The two teams enjoyed a close game in the first three quarters, neither team was able to lead for a long time. Norther forward Ren stood out at the beginning of the final quarter, leading the team to a 23-2 spurt. The southern team struggled to draw back the score, but the Guo Ailun refused to drop the victory. He increased his scoring record to 30 in the last three minutes to help his team seal the victory.

The Northern team played a more aggressive game, outrebounding South 28-17.

Five Southern players collected double figures, Li Yuanyu and Zeng Lingxu scored 14 points respectively. Dongguan star Sun Tonglin made 12 points, as well as the game-high 17 rebounds.
