KOLKATA, India, Feb. 19. (Xinhua) -- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday dismissed some top officials from its newly constituted West Bengal state committee after a four-day state conference.

Realizing that the party's rank and file was unhappy with some officials whose image was tarnished because of charges of corruption, nepotism, criminality and irresponsible statements, the state leadership, in consultation with party general secretary Prakash Karat, dropped these men, said party sources.

Among them are former West Bengal minister Sushanto Ghosh, who is out on bail after being accused in the mass murder and skeleton case, former Members of Parliament Lakshman Seth, who is absconding, Anil Basu, Amitabha Nandy and central committee member Benoy Konar.

Biman Bose was reelected as state secretary and a 75-member state committee was announced though eight more members will be co- opted later.
