The eggs were handed over to Chinese scientists in December 2011 after five years of negotiations. Since then, they have been stuck in Customs, undergoing a thorough examination.

According to the museum, an expert committee will soon conduct an evaluation of the fossilized eggs to determine their scientific value and their original location.

According to published reports, the dinosaur nest is believed to be at least 65 million years old. It was unearthed in Guangdong province in 1984 and was purchased by an American collector in 2003 from a source in Taiwan.

One dinosaur expert has been quoted as saying that the eggs are "way more perfect than any existing fossil egg samples in China". Others, however, have suggested that the nest was not formed naturally, but was arranged by humans.
