BRAZZAVILLE, March 4 (Xinhua) -- Someone working with the Beijing Construction Engineering Group in the Republic of Congo was injured in Sunday's explosions in Brazzaville, the capital of the Central African country, according to the Chinese Consulate.

Wang Jia of the Chinese Consulate made the confirmation after powerful blasts rocked the city at 8 a.m. local time (0700 GMT), shattering the windows of the Xinhua bureau office. The diplomat did not give more details.

Xinhua's correspondent saw the military had cordoned off the scene of the blasts between the districts of Mpila and Talangai.

Information from the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) linked the blasts to an arms depot close to the border.

DR Congo's state television indicated an accident might have occurred.
