BIRMINHAM, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia outlast China's world champion Chen Jin 2-0 at the All England Open Badminton Championships on Thursday, setting up an Olympic champion clash against Lin Dan in the last eight.

The Athens Olympic champion beat Chen in two straight sets with 21-19. 21-19, aiming to stop the fifth seed from getting enough points to book the London Olympic men's single berth, the last ticket China needed following Lin Dan and Chen Long's ensured ones.

"I know they want to make it. I want to stop them. It was my motivation," said Taufik.

The Beijing Olympic champion, Lin, made his advancing route much easier. He beat Malaysia's "promising star" Chong Wei Feng 21-13, 21-16.

On the top clash, Taufik said he had confidence to go further.

"No doubt, Lin is one of the greatest shuttlers. But I was in form these days and I will try to beat him."

Following Lin's steps, the world's number three Chen Long advanced after three-set-comeback victory over Nguyen Tien Minh of Vietnam.

The top seed Lee Chong Wei used two sets (23-21, 21-18) to beat Hans-Kristian Vittinghus and also enter the quarterfinals, which will be staged on Friday.

In women's singles and doubles events, China both seized the half berths of the last eight respectively led by the top seeded Wang Yihan and Wang Xiaoli/Yu Yang.

The nicknamed "Wind and Cloud Pair" Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng, the world's leading men's double players, progressed with the other two Chinese pairs.

In the mixed doubles, the second-seeded Xu Chen/Ma Jin advanced. They are the only pair of China in the last eight.

The host players also had some good performances to cheer the home crowds at the National Indoor Arena in Birminham.

Following the victory over world champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China, England's Chris Adcock and Scotland's Imogen Bankier produced another scintillating display tonight to reach the last eight of the mixed discipline.
