S. Korea's Hankook Tire to supply tires to Daimler Trucks

03-23-2012 14:16 BJT

SEOUL, March 23 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's leading tire maker Hankook Tire said Friday that it reached an agreement with the U.S. -based Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) to supply tires for the automaker's truck models.

Under the agreement, Hankook Tire will supply original equipment (OE) tires for DTNA's three models, including Freightliner, Cascadia and Coronado, starting May this year, the tire maker said in an e-mailed statement.

Hankook Tire's AL11 and DL11 drive tires will be installed in the trucks. The AL11 tires are optimized for long haul driving conditions with longer mileage, while the DL11 tires minimize abrasion with its unique pattern design.

"An OE agreement like this one with a leader such as DTNA is yet another critical proof point of our strong brand, investment in R&D, and leading technology here in the U.S.," said Bryan Woo, vice president of Hankook Tire's global OE division.

In 2011, Hankook Tire's sales expanded 20.9 percent on-year to 6.48 trillion won (5.72 billion U.S. dollars) with operating profit of 566.3 billion won. Around 70 percent of its revenue came from overseas sales.
