Chinese Defense Minister meets with Swedish Commander of the Armed Forces

BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua)-- Chinese State Councilor and Defense Minister Liang Guanglie on Friday met with visiting Swedish Commander of the Armed Forces Sverker Goranson, and the two exchanged views on bilateral ties and relations between the two militaries.

Liang said China and Sweden have enjoyed the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations since establishing diplomatic relations.

"China is willing to work with Sweden to further promote the two countries' relations to a new high under the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," he said.

Liang hoped to strengthen pragmatic cooperation and communication in professional fields and bring the two militaries' relations to a new level.

Goranson said the two countries have developed sound relations in recent years and conducted broad cooperation in economic and cultural fields.

"Sweden attaches great importance to developing its relationship with China. It is of great importance to enhance understanding and strengthen cooperation for both of our militaries," he said.
