BRUSSELS, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Brussels public transport company STIB on Saturday said it had suspended its metro, tram and bus operations following a "dramatic assault" which left one of its staff "brain dead," local media reported.

According to local newspaper Le Soir, STIB has called back all its vehicles on Saturday morning, after a serious assault on one of the company's supervisors earlier the same day.

It said the 56-year-old supervisor is "brain dead."

The work stoppage would last at least until Saturday afternoon.

The paper said STIB refused to comment on whether it had identified the attacker, but reported that a man in his 30s had been arrested.
