Nigeria vie for Olympic men's beach volleyball berth

LAGOS, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria and seven other countries will compete for Africa's single slot at the 2012 Olympics men's beach volleyball, Secretary of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation Patrick Abobi said Tuesday.

Abobi told reporters in Lagos, the country's commercial hub, that the qualifiers would be held in Mauritius on April 12-16.

The seven other countries are Algeria, Egypt, Mauritius, Angola, Congo Brazzaville, South Africa and Cameroon

Abobi gave an assurance that the four players representing Nigeria at the qualifiers were totally prepared for the task ahead of them.

The secretary said the players, who had been in camp since February, in Abuja, were decamped on April 6.

Abobi said the team would depart for Mauritius on April 12 via South African Airline.

According to him, the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) and the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) would be at the qualifiers to assess the players.
