French presidential hopeful vows to bring social justice, growth

05-04-2012 04:20 BJT Special Report:2012 French Presidential Election |

PARIS, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Presidential frontrunner Francois Hollande on Thursday vowed to bring social justice and growth to French people as all polls suggest that he will beat the incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy in Sunday's runoff election.

The biggest difference between him and Sarkozy should be in bringing the social justice and economic policy, rather than in the style of presidency, the Socialist challenger said in an interview with TV channels of France 24 and RFI on Thursday afternoon.

It was one day after his bitter debate with Sarkozy that had been watched by almost 17.8 million voters across the country.

Hollande seemed satisfied with his performance in the debate, seen by most analysts as more aggressive than expected, as he had controlled the tempo during the course.

It was the first time French people "saw me in a debate against the outgoing president," Hollande told TV reporters, while elaborating on his political and economic proposals, especially his foreign policy positions.

He reaffirmed the intention of withdrawing French troops from Afghanistan by the end of this year. He also strongly defended the proposal of adding 60,000 posts in education sector.

As Sarkozy failed to prevail over his rival in the debated as he had wished and the election campaign should come to an official end by Friday midnight, Hollande is widely expected to enjoy a comfortable victory in Sunday's final polling.
