CHICAGO, May 3 (Xinhua) -- A small aircraft crashed Thursday near an airport in North Illinois, the United States, killing two adults, according to authorities.

The single-engine Beech 35 plane went down in a pit just east of a lake in the Hills Airport in McHenry County, Illinois, Chicago Tribune on Thursday quoted authorities as saying.

Witnesses said that they heard the plane and then a loud noise, and it was unclear if the plane was taking off or landing.
