Use of recycled metals increases in Sweden

05-04-2012 09:20 BJT

STOCKHOLM, May 3 (Xinhua) -- The use of recycled metals increased in Sweden, the Swedish Chemicals Agency and Statistics Sweden said on Thursday.

According to a report on hazardous chemicals, about 60,000 tons of waste and scrap copper were used in Sweden in 2010, compared to only 15,000 tons in 2006.

The increase could be explained mainly as a result of the increased import of crap copper, the Swedish Chemicals Agency and Statistics Sweden said in a joint statement.

Meanwhile, the import of scrap of stainless steel also increased from about 60,000 tons in 2009 to approximately 80,000 tons in 2010.

According to the report, large amounts of chemicals are used in different industries in Sweden.

The chemicals industry, which produces petroleum products and pharmaceuticals, used undoubtedly most chemicals, amounting to 920 tons per employee last year, while the corresponding figure in agriculture was 40 tons per person.
