MOSCOW, May 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and some 30 others injured in two separate blasts in Russia's restive North Caucasus republic of Dagestan Thursday night, according to Itar-Tass news agency.

The first explosion took place at about 10 p.m. local time near a police post in Makhachkala, the capital of Dagestan, and the second happened about half an hour later, said the reports.

"Five people, including two staff members of the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry died instantly, and five more died in hospitals," a source from local law enforcement agency was quoted as saying.

According to the source, the injured were soon hospitalized after the accident, but many of them were in a grave condition.

Earlier reports said that five people, including two firefighters and three policemen, were killed in the blasts.

No one has claimed responsibility for the deadly blasts so far.

The sites of explosions were sealed off and further investigation was underway.

Violence is common in Russia's North Caucasus, especially in republics of Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, with militants frequently mounting attacks against police officers and government authorities.
