BEIJING, May 4 (Xinhua) -- President Hu Jintao said Friday that the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) has proven itself to be a loyal aide and reserve force of the Communist Party of China (CPC) over the past 90 years.

Hu made the remarks while delivering a speech at a grand ceremony held at the Great Hall of the People to mark the 90th anniversary of the CYLC's founding.

The CYLC serves as a bridge linking the CPC and Chinese youth, and it remains an important social pillar for the socialist state power, according to Hu.

Hu said Chinese youth must unswervingly follow the leadership of the CPC, carry forward patriotism, walk in the forefront of the times and take an active part in the social practices of the Chinese people.

Meanwhile, he said the youth must be respected as the main body of the Chinese youth movement, urging better efforts to understand and trust the youth, and give full play to their strengths.

Other top leaders were also present at the event, including Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Changchun, Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang, He Guoqiang and Zhou Yongkang.
