Brazil pockets Olympic volleyball ticket

05-14-2012 11:01 BJT Special Report:2012 London Olympic Games |

RIO DE JANEIRO, May 13 (Xinhua) -- Brazil earned a berth in the London Olympics women's volleyball tournament with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-16, 25-9) victory over Peru in the final of the South American qualifiers on Sunday.

The reigning Olympic champions needed little more than an hour to win the gold medal and secure the continent's only Olympic vacancy.

Brazil missed the chance to qualify directly for the event by finishing outside the top three at the last November's World Cup in Japan.

Italy, the United States, China, Algeria, Turkey, the Dominican Republic and host Great Britain have already qualified.

The Games' remaining three spots will be decided at a playoff tournament in Tokyo next week.
