India's national carrier cancels 14 international flights

NEW DELHI, May 14 (Xinhua) -- India's flagship carrier Air India plunged into turbulence with the pilots' strike entering seventh day Monday, forcing the airliner to cancel 14 international flights, a spokesperson said.

"Some 14 international flights from the national capital and Mumbai have been canceled after over 350 pilots reported sick. Despite several attempts, pilots are refusing to call off their strike, arising out of promotion policy and the rescheduling of training of its Boeing dreamliner which Air India is to acquire," he said.

Indian Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh reiterated his appeal to the striking pilots to call off their stir and hold discussions with the government.

Meanwhile, a number of passengers this morning held a protest outside Mumbai against the cancellation of flights, denouncing the pilots.

The national carrier had Sunday canceled at least 20 international flights.

Air India has suspended international bookings till May 15.
