05-30-2012 18:21 BJT

NAIROBI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's participation in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification will depend on goodwill from the International Volleyball Federation.

Speaking from the Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday, Kenya Volleyball Federation chairman Waithaka Kioni said due to unavailability of funds they have requested the FIVB to donate air tickets to the Kenyan team in order to facilitate the trip.

"We have sent a request to FIVB to give us air tickets to go to Italy for this World Cup. If we get the tickets, then we will go," said the Confederation of African Volleyball vice president.

Kenya qualified for the World Cup by virtue of finishing the Continental Cup in second place held in Rwanda last week.

On the shores of Lake Kivu, Kenya was represented by veterans Dorcas Ndasaba and Margaret Indakala, who ply their trade at the Armee Patriotique Rwandaise (APR) and home-based players Edinah Rotich of Ulinzi and Eunice Maiyo of Kenya Commercial Bank.

Kenya's request is expected to face some stern test as one of the requirements to take part at the World Cup is participating National Federations are responsible for covering international transportation expenses of their delegation.

All Africa Games gold medalists Mauritius won the solitary London Olympic Games ticket by beating Kenya 3-2 in the golden set in the final of Continental Cup final last Saturday. Mozambique won the bronze medal match after beating South Africa 3-2.
