06-05-2012 10:00 BJT

Bart Jansen, a Dutch artist, turned his dead cat into a permanent piece of artwork as the ultimate tribute by transforming him into a flying helicopter.

He made the cat contraption with Arjen Beltman, a radio control helicopter flyer. He said: “After a period of mourning he received his propellers posthumously.”

The cat Orville, named after the famous aviator Orville Wright, was run over by a car. Orville is now "half cat, half machine". The end result, named the Orvillecopter, is now on show at the Kunstrai art festival in Amsterdam.
