6.1-magnitude quake hits Pakistan, no casualties reported so far

ISLAMABAD, July 12 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.1 magnitude hit Pakistan on Thursday night, said meteorological officials.

The earthquake took place at 19:00:33 Pakistan Standard Time. The epicenter is in the Hindu Kush Region in Afghanistan, which is located close to the northern and northwestern parts of Pakistan.

The depth of the earthquake is 169 kilometers under the ground, according to Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Strong tremors were felt across the country's northwestern city of Peshawar, down to the capital Islamabad and the eastern city of Lahore.

The earthquake lasted for 15 to 20 minutes, said meteorological officials.

No casualties have been reported so far except that an army building in the country's northwestern district of Nowshera reportedly collapsed in the earthquake.
