BUDAPEST, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's men's waterpolo team won the Vodafone Cup Olympic warm-up tournament in Budapest after beating Australia 8-4 in the final game on Tuesday.

The result meant they leapfrogged Australia, who had beaten Spain in a surprise result earlier in the tournament, to take first place in the four-team group with six points. Australia finished in second with four points, Spain in third place with four points, and world champions Italy in fourth with three.

The final game ended with a comfortable victory for the hosts who are chasing a record fourth consecutive gold medal at the Olympic Games. In a low-scoring match they led 3-1 at half-time, with Australia's goal coming only in the last minute of the half.

Hungary extended their lead to 6-3 entering the final quarter. Both Tamas Kasas, and Norbert Hosznyanszky scored three goals, with Tamas Varga and Norbert Madaras scoring one goal each. Australia's goals were scored by Aaron Younger, Jamie Beadsworth, Aidan Roach, and Samuel McGregor.

The Olympic men's waterpolo tournament begins in London on July 29.
