LONDON, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Mexico's flag went up Tuesday at London's Olympic village at an event attended by 80 of the nation's top athletes and envoys just three days before the opening of the 30th Olympic Games.

Mayor of the Olympic Village Charles Allen led the flag-raising ceremony, which was also attended by Mexico's Ambassador to Britain Eduardo Medina Mora, Sports Minister Bernardo de la Garza, and chief of the Mexican athletic delegation Jaime Cadaval.

Among the Mexican star athletes there to see Mexico's flag raised alongside Nicaragua's and Peru's were diver Paola Espinosa, who will be competing in the 10-meter diving board, boxer Oscar Valdez and gymnast Daniel Corral.

Mexico's national anthem was played as the flag was raised in a moving ceremony and the athletes are hoping to repeat by climbing the winners' podium at the Olympics.

Mexico has sent a total of 102 athletes to the games running from July 27 to Aug 12.

It was expected that at least 20 of the Mexican athletes will finish among the top performers, though they have declined to predict a medal count.

At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Mexico garnered a total of three

medals, including two gold medals in taekwondo and a bronze in synchronized diving.
