Israeli soldiers kill Palestinian at West Bank checkpoint

RAMALLAH, July 30 (Xinhua) -- A Palestinian was killed and two others wounded early Monday by Israeli fire at a checkpoint in the West Bank, medical and security sources said.

The three, who were in a car, came under fire from Israeli soldiers when passing through an Israeli checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem shortly after midnight, the security sources said.

The sources added that the three were going to pray in Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa mosque.

The dead, identified as Akram Badee, died of his injuries at an Israeli hospital, and the driver of the car was arrested, the sources said.

There has been no official Israeli explanation for the incident.
