LONDON, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan's Zulfiya Chinshanlo broke her own clean-and-jerk world record with a lift of 131kg and claimed the women's 53kg category gold at the Olympic Games here on Sunday.

Zulfiya, a former Chinese national who was born and raised in central China's Hunan Province, snatched 95kg and jerked 131kg for a two-lift total of 226kg for the gold medal.

Hsu Shu-Ching of Chinese Taipei got the silver with 219kg and Iovu Cristina of Moldova, who lifted the same weight, bagged the bronze because of her heavier body-weight.

In the snatch, tension rose when Cristina, 20, opened high at 95kg. Hsu and Zulfiya both asked for 90kg at the beginning, then Hsu changed to 91kg and lifted the weight in her first attempt. Zulfiya raised 92kg in her second attempt.

Zulfiya and Hsu succeeded in 95kg and 96kg respectively in their final attempt, but they were soon overtaken by Cristina, who lifted 99kg.

In the clean and jerk, Zulfiya led the round with a sound first attempt at 125kg. Then she hoisted 131kg in her second try amidst thunderous applause and cheers, breaking her own world record set in 2011.

She then failed at 135kg.

"I had a plan to break the record in my third attempt, but I failed. I am a bit disappointed," said Zulfiya.

Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev came to the venue to congratulate the gold winner.

"I can't tell how much money he will award me. I am afraid I will be robbed," Zulfiya quipped.

Hsu Shu-Ching said: "I am so happy. I don't have the words to describe it."
