08-08-2012 17:24 BJT

JAKARTA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian contingent aims to break 10 years hiatus on medals in the 14th Paralympics Games in London from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9, media quoting official reported here on Wednesday.

The National Paralympics Committee (NPC) will deploy four differently abled (diffabled) athletes; namely I Nengah Widiasih in weightlifting, David Jacobs in table tennis, Setyo Budi in athletics and Agus Ngaimin in swimming; a slight increase from the three-athlete squad in Beijing 2008, said NPC secretary general Pribadi.

"We have a good chance to win a medal in table tennis," he was quoted by the Jakarta Post as saying.

Table tennis athlete, David, has won numerous international competitions, including in the 2012 Lignano Master Open in Italy, where he gained two gold medals.

Swimming athlete Agus, who will participate in 100-meter backstroke event, broke the record for 50-meter freestyle in the last year's ASEAN Paragames.

Agus, who suffered from polio, achieved five gold medals in the event that was held in Surakarta, Central Java.

Despite his achievements, the 28-year-old man set a modest goal for his Paralympics debut.

"I hope I can reach final. I see Canada, China and Russia's athletes as my biggest contenders," he said.
