Spain outclasses France to reach men's basketball semis at London Olympics

LONDON, Aug.8 (Xinhua) -- Spain used a late 12-2 run to beat France 66-59 on Wednesday and reached the semi-finals of men's basketball tournament in London Olympics.

Marc Gasol scored 14 points, brother Pau added a double figure of ten points and 11 rebounds for the 2008 silver medalists Spain, which ended a two-game losing streak at these tournament.

Trailing 57-54 in the final quarter with 6:51 left, Spain launched a 12-2 run to secure the victory.

Tony Parker and Boris Diaw each scored 15 points for France.

"We played with heart. We suffered a lot to make it here. We improved our defence and mentally and we took the game for us. This is still not our best level, we have room for improvement," said Pau Gasol from NBA Los Angeles Lakers.

Spain will face Russia in the semi-finals on Friday.
