HOUSTON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- Houston, the largest city of the U.S. state of Texas, held on Thursday night a vigil for the Sikh victims in the deadly Wisconsin attack with the participation of hundreds of Houstonians from different religions, races and backgrounds.

The vigil, which was organized by the mayor's office, was held at the steps of the city hall where more than seven religions were represented.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker hosted the vigil for the Sikh victims of the Wisconsin attack, and for the aim of showing the world the city's zero tolerance to hate crime and a solidarity for the city's Sikh community of about 5,000.

During the vigil, candles were lit in honor of the victims, and most Sikh attendances wore blue shirts with the victims names inscribed on the back.

On Aug. 5, the gunman Wade Michael Page killed six Sikh people before fatally shooting himself.
