Julie Bresset of France wins women's cycling mountain gold

LONDON, Aug.11 (Xinhua) -- Julie Bresset of France won the women's cycling mountain bike gold medal in 1 hour 30 minutes and 52 seconds at the London Olympic Games here on Saturday.

Bresset earned France its first cycling gold at the London Olympics. She was 23 years and 63 days old and became the youngest Olympic medallist in women's mountain bike.

"I started well, I took the front of the race and I managed it well. When I had a gap I told myself: 'Now, I should go'. I led until the finish and I'm very content," she said.

Sabine Spitz of Germany got the silver in 1:31:54. She was the champion in Beijing and also took the bronze medal at Athens 2004. "Now I have the complete collection, so I am very satisfied. I always had a medal on my mind." she said.

Georgia Gould of the United States placed third in 1:32:00, while Chinese cyclist Shi Qinglan ranked 12th in the race.

London Olympic's Mountain Bike race course was settled in the Essex countryside on land owned by the Salvation Army. Hadleigh Farm is a 550-acre site that features beautiful grassland and woodland.
