KADUNA, Nigeria, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- At least three people died in an explosion in Ali Akilu area of northwest Nigeria's Kaduna State, authorities of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said Tuesday.

Zonal coordinator of NEMA in the northwest Musa Ilallah told Xinhua that rescue officials had already evacuated the dead bodies including two people suspected to be suicide bombers and an unidentified passerby in the area.

"The two bombers were on a motorbike when suddenly the explosives got detonated and tragedy struck," he said, adding that the military and rescue officials had arrived the explosion site on time to cordon-off the area.

According to the top rescue official, no injuries were recorded in the afternoon explosion.

The blast occurred in a place that is about an hour drive to the Sultan Bello Mosque where a Muslim cleric recently launched verbal attacks against the dreaded Boko Haram sect in his weekly sermon in the area.

The Tuesday explosion in northwest Kaduna State occurred less than a week after the state government lifted a 24-hour curfew, following the June 17 bomb attacks on three churches in Zaria and Kaduna, which resulted to reprisal and counter reprisal attacks and leaving many people killed and several others injured.
