HOUSTON, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- A train derailed on early Wednesday morning in a railroad yard in northeast Houston, the largest city of the U.S. state of Texas.

The accident took place in the Union Pacific rail yard near Kirkpatrick, northeast Houston shortly after mid-night, local English daily The Houston Chronicle quoted a spokeswoman for the company as saying.

Seven cars jumped the track when crews were building a train, and at least three of the empty cars went off the tracks and ended up on their sides, the spokeswoman said.

No injuries were reported and no hazardous material leaked, but the traffic in Kirkpatrick was temporarily closed as crews were trying to clear the area, added the spokeswoman.
