The Changjiangyuan eco-environment protection station is the second station built by the "Green River", aiming to guard the Bar-headed Goose, who would breed in region.

Bar-headed Geese living in Asia is the birds flying highest in the world, for they have to fly almost uninterruptedly for about eight hours to pass through the world's highest mountain: Mount Qomolangma of 8844 meters.

Every spring and summer, tens of thousands of Bar-headed Geese fly over mountains to China's Qinghai, Tibet and Xinjiang from India and other countries in South Asia. In later winter, they have to go back to those countries for winter.

With climate change and increasing human activities, the Bar-headed Goose's breeding grounds in the source region of the Yangtze River faces serious threat, leading to a sharp reduction in its population in recent years, according to Yang Xin, Chinese well-known environmentalist and initiator of the NGO "Green River".

Nearly 2000 eggs of the Bar-headed Goose are looted by human beings every year, and there are only 70,000 of them in world, he added.

Volunteers have been recruited to protect the birds since March this year. Lots of application from all walks of life has been received and volunteers have taken their responsibility there after screening.

The first protection station set up by the organization is the Sonam Dorje protection station in the Hoh Xil national nature reserve for the conservation of Tibetan antelopes.
