ANKARA, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- 14 inmates were injured in a prison fire which broke out in the northeastern Turkey , local newspaper Today's Zaman reported Friday.
The fire started in the Ardahan B-Type Prison in the province of Ardahan after an inmate set his properties on fire late on Thursday, according to the report.
A total of 13 convicts and a warden were taken to hospital for treatment after the fire which was immediately contained by a firefighter team, said the report.
Ardahan Governor Seyfettin Azizoglu was quoted as saying that the fire was started by a convict who was taken to the Ardahan State Hospital with second-degree burns, adding that the injured are reported to be in good condition.
